Our M-1 student visa process can be understood in 4 steps:

Step 1: Gather Required Documents
Depending on educational background and the program applying to, applicants will need to provide the following:

Completed and signed Admissions Application

Proof of English Proficiency, if required

TOEFL Internet-Based Test (iBT); minimum score of 41 required

International English Language Test (IELTS); minimum score of 4.0 required

Pearson Test of English Academic Score Report; minimum score of 38 required

Duolingo English Test; minimum score of 80 required

TOEIC; minimum score of 600 required

Transcripts verifying prior educational attainment

Business, Finance and Management Program - High School (Secondary School) Diploma or the Equivalent

Management Program - One (1) year of College or University completed, at minimum; business program preferred

Copy of Passport identification page, including the applicant’s full name and photo

Financial Support Documentation

Recent (< 60 days) bank statement or a letter from the applicant's bank or sponsor’s bank if applicants have a sponsor (in English) showing sufficient funds for tuition fees and for the length of study in New York. If applicants have a sponsor, they must also complete an Affidavit of Support.

*The Duolingo English Test is an online English proficiency test that can be taken online, on-demand, in under an hour for only $49. The test is taken via a computer with a camera and includes a proficiency score, video interview, and writing sample which are shared with BFMS.NY when applicants send their results. Certified results are available within 48 hours of the test session.
Step 2: Sending Documents
Submit original or certified copies only. Applicants should submit the above materials as a single package to BFMS.NY.

Step 3: Admission Decision
Expect to be notified of an admissions decision within 1-2 weeks from a complete application submission. Upon acceptance at BFMS.NY, applicants will receive an enrollment agreement. The applicant will sign the enrollment agreement and an admissions agent of BFMS.NY will countersign the agreement. A copy of the fully-signed agreement will be provided to the accepted applicant, who is now a BFMS.NY student!
Finally, the student (or sponsor school/organization) will pay the program tuition, which is fully refundable (with the exception of a Registration Fee of $100) if the visa application is rejected.
Step 4: Visa Application & Arrival in the USA
After payment is received by BFMS.NY, the DSO will issue the I-20 form. The I-20 enables the student to apply for a student visa.
The student will need to pay the SEVIS fee using form I-901, and then make an appointment with the US Consulate/Embassy to complete the visa application. Visa appointment wait times can be viewed here.

As an approved M-1 Student Visa program, BFMS.NY students may arrive in New York up to 30 days prior to the start of classes, and remain in the US for up to 30 days after the programs' conclusion. During their studies, students have the opportunity to visit world-renowned attractions such as Broadway musicals, restaurants, monuments and attend the various events that are constantly hosted in our beloved city.
